Supplying, fitting or installing safes
Opening safes

Re-keying safes
Moving safes
Cutting additional safe keys

Safe Opening
When opening safes our safe engineers would look to use picking or manipulation methods if possible to minimise damage and allow the continual use of the safe. If it is necessary to drill the safe our safe engineers would adhere to the industry’s code of practise (BS7582), as you would expect, for the reconditioning and repair of used safes.
In our experience the most common problems experienced with safes, resulting in our call out, include:
Lost or misplaced safe keys
Integral fault within the safes door or lock
A snapped key or part of the key has broken off in the safes lock
The detachable part of the safe key is missing or has come off in the safe
The key will not go into the safe
The key goes into the safe but does not turn or only turns so far
The safe key is difficult to turn
Lost safe codes or combinations
The safes electronic lock has locked the user out
The safe batteries are flat
Something inside the safe is jamming the operation
The safes door closes but the bolts will not throw
The safes door will not close or is binding
An under floor safe and lock has seized
Buying a Safe
At Timpson Locksmiths we deal with most popular safe manufactures in the UK and can advise on the most suitable safe for your needs.
Safes are usually bought as a stipulated requirement of your insurance company, though you may simply be realistic and see a safe purchase as a necessity in keeping valuables, such as jewellery, documents or backed up electronic data, secure.
If your insurance company has required that you purchase a safe they will have given you a minimum cash rating for your safe needs. These cash ratings are a grading system applied to the level of security offered by different safes and will allow us to help you identify the correct safe for your needs.
The things to consider when buying a safe include:
What will be kept in the safe and the associated financial value
Insurance company requirements – the cash rating (if applicalbe)
Your prefered locking option: key lock, combination dial, code lock, biometric readers or electronic keypads, which may be multi user and programmed for timed operation
The safe location: freestanding, under the floor, wall mounted, etc.
Fire Safes and Data Safes
Fire Safes
Paper and documents are known to deteriorate at temperatures above 177 degees Centigrade. As a result Fire Safes have been designed to a higher specification to protect the safes contents from a fire for several hours, depending on the grade.
Data Safes
The loss of data, as a direct result of a fire, can in many cases be enough to cause a business to fail. (Electronic) Data is far more vulnerable to excessive heat, dust, humidity and magnetic fields than traditional paper based documents. Temperatures over 55 degrees centigrade will destroy data so something as simple as a hot cup of tea could strip your business of vital information. Data safes are generally a step up from Fire safes in terms of providing a safes contents with protection from heat.
Safe Testing Standards
At Timpson Locksmiths we adhere to the recognised testing standards of A.B.I.S., the Association of Burglary Insurance Surveyors. Timpson Locksmiths also supply safes recognised by A.B.I., the Association of British Insurers, who require safes to have a recognised cash rating.
We also supply safes adhering to the following testing standards:
Sold Secures
